Almost 30 years ago, Esther A. Vibal, President of Vibal Publishing House, Inc. (VPHI), had a vision of imparting up-to-date knowledge through affordable grade school and high school supplementary materials for Social Studies. Taking advantage of the resources and expertise of VPHI, she established a weekly educational magazine, Sulong Dunong. Its first issue came off the press on July 7, 1980, with his son, Gaspar A. Vibal as the publisher.

On June 18, 1980, Sulong Dunong was approved and registered at the Philippine Council for Media Print. It was also approved as a supplementary material for grade school and high school by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS). In 1991, Sulong Dunong was renamed Student’s Digest. It also marked the establishment of SD Publications, Inc.

SD Publications, Inc. did not stop imparting knowledge to Filipino students. In 1996, it launched S&T Digest, a Science and Technology magazine for grade school and high school. It is the response of SD Publications, Inc. to the government’s effort to promote science and technology for national development.

In 2007, SD Publications, Inc., launched V2day (Values and Virtues for Today), a Values Education magazine for grade school and high school students. Its main objective is to teach universal values and virtues to Filipino students through the different articles in the magazine.

On June 15, 2009, SD Publications, Inc. launched SDmags.net (http://www.sdmags.net), the Web site of Student’s Digest, S&T Digest, and V2day. Students, teachers, parents, and everyone who wants learn more about social studies, science and technology, and values education can log on to http://www.sdmags.net and read more articles and activities of their favorite supplementary reading materials.

SDmags.net also has other features to offer aside from the online articles. Our Web site columnists provide interesting insights on various topics in social studies, science and technology, and values education. Teachers can also avail of teaching guides that accompany each online article. Users of SDmags.net can also watch videos, view the photo gallery, and be updated with the upcoming releases of SD magazines in print. As an added bonus, we have made available the previous school year’s complete set of issues of the three magazines which users can conveniently.

Whether in print or online, SD Publications, Inc. will continue to provide quality educational materials that Filipino students deserve.
